Growing income inequalities have a serious impact on families with children. This volume offers new data on multiple aspects of the phenomenon. It shows income distribution for the overall population as well as for younger and older children. It underlines the fact that the often mentioned growth in regional inequalities means among other things, that poverty, and in particular child poverty, has moved to the countryside. Low incomes “naturally” result in lower quality and often unhealthy food, and poor housing conditions that impede child development. These conditions are particularly acute in the poorest villages, and within them Gypsy families are exceedingly hard hit.
